Teeth-whitening is Not Just for Women

Reasons to Get Your Cavity Filled Soon

by Dianne Rodriquez

Too many people will make the mistake of assuming that they can put off getting a cavity in their tooth filled because they are busy and they are not really experiencing a lot of pain. However, the level of pain you are experiencing should never be used as an indication of whether you need to be seen by a dentist. You will want to schedule an appointment with your dentist as soon as you even just suspect that you have a cavity in one of your teeth. Here are some reasons why:

You Don't Want to Lose the Tooth

What may start as a simple, small cavity that just needs to be filled could turn into a massive problem that spreads an infection through your blood. The tooth could further decay and ultimately have to be extracted. You can help reduce the chances of any of that happening by simply scheduling an appointment with your dentist as soon as you start to feel something going wrong with one or more of your teeth.

You Want to Avoid Additional Pain

There might be a little pain now that you are managing on your own, but the pain level could get a lot worse. As the infected tooth gets worse, so will the pain. After a while, you might find that the pain is no longer able to be managed by an over-the-counter pain reliever. At this point, an infection could have begun to spread, creating a much more dangerous situation. Instead of waiting until the pain is more than you can bare, call and set up an appointment right away.

Now that you have had a chance to really understand why it is so imperative for you to get to the dentist as soon as you know that there is a problem with your oral health, you will want to take action immediately. If you do not have a dentist, start researching the ones close to you, or call your insurance company so they can give you a referral to local dentist practice's that accept your insurance. The sooner you call for an appointment the better, as many offices get backed up so you might have to wait a couple of weeks before your appointment date. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, go to the nearest walk-in dental office or the emergency room at the local hospital. Dental infections are serious and should not be ignored.
