How to Know if it's Time for You to Go Get New Dentures

by Dianne Rodriquez

Dentures can be expensive to replace and this might be why so many people are prone to try to make theirs last for as long as possible. However, it is better to make sure that you are well aware of when it is time to get a new set of dentures and then make the appointment to do so. To help you have a better understanding of when it's time for that, you will want to remember the following information.

You Have to Keep Reapplying Glue Throughout the Day

You might be used to cleaning your dentures in the morning and then applying a thin layer of denture glue on them so they stay in place all day. However, if you are starting to find that you need to reapply denture glue several times a day or you risk them falling out, then it is likely time for you to get new dentures. As the years pass by, the shape of your mouth will change some, causing your current set of dentures to no longer fit as well.

You Are Getting Sores in Your Mouth

If you are getting red painful sores in areas that are normally covered by your dentures, then it is likely an issue with the dentures themselves. They might not fit as nicely and some sections may be rubbing too hard in certain spots. If that is the case, then you will continue to get sores, and some of those could develop infections. Therefore, you will want to make sure that you are scheduling an appointment to be seen by a denture professional. He or she will check out your mouth and determine what the problem is. New forms will be taken and from those, new dentures will be created for you.

With the previously mentioned points in mind, you should have little trouble making sure that you are going to know when it is time to contact a denture clinic in your area for an appointment for replacements. Remember, it can take a few weeks for your denture molds to be completed depending on where you go. Therefore, you will always want to set your appointment as soon as possible. If you have a denture replacement emergency, you could always find a denture clinic that does the denture creation right there on-site, which means you should be able to get the finished ones much quicker.
